U.S.S. Nelson - NCC-2854

This is another model I wasn’t going to post, but it was an interesting build so I thought I’d throw it out there. This is Paragon’s kit bash of the U.S.S. Nelson. It’s based off Makino’s Enterprise with customized parts. This was printed and cut out a long time ago and as such it didn’t really match how I build these models now. It also came off my old printer that had some color and registration issues. But, it was there and I had taken the time to redo the hull markings and registries, so I decided to slap it together. The only other extra steps I took was to do some raised details, recess the grills on the pylons, I had to create a piece to fill the hole between the impulse engines, and I had to use a PDMcCool pylon to attach the torpedo launcher as one wasn’t included. I only had one front view of the model to work from, so engine placement was a best guess. Later, I found some pics that show the engines are supposed to attach to the pylons on their bottoms instead of their sides.

Overall, this is a bad build by me. The ship is badly skewed to the sides and the large “deck” on top came out twisted. Again, it laid on the desk for a long time and I would do a much better job if I were to build another, but I won’t because I’m not a fan of this design. I like the elongated Oberth-style engines, but I don’t get the rest of it. I’m not sure what its function would be. That’s not a knock on Paragon, that’s just a personal preference. Anyway, she makes for an interesting post. I won’t be posting build details, I’m just putting up the pictures.

First up, the primary hull and neck.
