I have built about four autos .What has frustrated me from the beginning is Tyres/Tires . Why ? Well there's this .Abeautifully colored tyre and then it's wheelcover .Looks great doesn't it? Well , there's one very big problem .
Most I've dealt with are only the thickness of the main sheet of paper which makes up the side of the vehicle .
Now to give this vehicle or that one life do this .Cut the tire/wheel combo away from the model .Create a box in the wheelwell ,that leaves a little edge of fender .Now take that wheel and tire and starting with a piece of round dowel .Create a paper strip.
Take that paper strip and wind it around the dowel till you've reached the outside edge of the supplied tire artwork .Stop and glue down the end of the strip . Let dry for at least a week . Remember you have glue all round this coil .
Now sand the back smooth
Remember to round the edges of the tire .The thickness depends on the tire width the actual car would have. i/e " Skinnies /Fat performance and everything in between .
Now here's where it can get interesting .Coloring those tires .I don't ( in the sense of using magic markers etc.) I use TESTORS Rubber color paint weathered with shades ( washes ) of black and dark grey .That will blend it into the printed tire .
No more tire/wheel combos folding under ! Try It , You'll like it ! Papersurprise 50
