Building the MMS spacecraft

Started building the MMS spacecraft.



It is one of the most highly detailed and challenging models I've encountered and will take a while to build. You can even download the launch vehicle for the MMS as well.



I'm no professional builder, but so far, it's looking good.



The spacecraft was launched last month.



If you want a spacecraft model to build that is challenging, this is the one to try.




Maly Modelarz Cutty Sark question

Although they show it on the cover picture; there are no studding sails or yardarm extensions on the model plans.



Has anyone found a work around for this problem? They are the most distinctive feature of this ship.

UFO Interceptor from Uhu02

Good evening folks,



the barge Cleopatra is nearing completion so I thought about my next project.

My choice is the UFO Interceptor from Uhu02. I hesitated a bit because of the fact that I do not see me as an advanced or expert modeler but it is as everytime...

One grows with his projects. So i decided to give it a try.

I chose the model because there are not too many party and it seems like I can achieve a good result with the given patience.

So... Here we go... Any advice is appreciated.



First parts are for the Cockpit. I scored the and cut them out. One glueing Tab is missing at the top of the bulkhead. But I think this can be ignored. Well we will see that when the build progresses.

The Edges are colored and tomorrow I will glue the first party together.

1:87 scale North AmericanX-15

I can still remember discussing the X-15 when I was in grade school. The subject was the change from a needle to a blunt nose. I can’t remember where I got the information (Weekly Reader? Science in Action?) but it was the latest news in the space race. I thought about building a model of the X-15 ever since. After all these years, I finally had a chance to do something about it.



When I started work 9 months ago, I could not find any free paper models of the X-15 at that time. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered that the X-15 model on Fiddlers Green is now available for free. Too late, I already designed and unfolded a model in 1:87 scale using Sketchup and line drawings that I found on the internet. At the very least, I wanted to include in my design what looked like the Whitcomb area rule. This is where the chines were slimmed down where the wings are located. It is barely noticeable at 1:87 scale but I am pleased to been able to reproduce the area rule in a paper model. Nevertheless, I am puzzled because the area rule is important in reducing drag between Mach 0.75 and 1.2 but the X-15 flew much faster than that and the problem NASA was trying to solve was atmospheric re-entry, not level supersonic flight.



Anyway, the model was painted using Adobe Illustrator. It was a bit confusing with 3 aircraft, many modifications and countless paint schemes. In the end I decided to copy the version that is in the Smithsonian Museum but without the wing tip pods because I could always find photos from all angles on the internet.



The attached photos will walk a builder through the steps. As a way of giving back to paper model community, I am sharing a pdf file with all of the parts.

The plane was a project of 1939, would have to to reach the speed of 800 km/h :eek:, for which it was planned to use a 16-cylinder engine Fiat AS8 (2250hp), with doubled propeller.

Sturmpanzer II Bison 1/50

Greetings all. I finally finished my build of the Bison II designed by Ivan Sukhorukov. Link here WWII Sturmpanzer II auf Pz.Kpfw II Ausf.B (Sturmpanzer II Bison) Free Paper Model Download | PaperCraftSquare.com. I think Mauther's site also listed this model.



The Bison II was an attempt to fit the sIG 33 Howitzer into a more suitable vehicle: the gun was really too large for its earlier Panzer I ausf. B mount (Bison I). Even the larger Panzer II chassis had to be significantly widened and lengthened to accomodate it. Only 12 of these vehicles were produced, and all were sent to Libya. Their performance was less than sterling. They suffered from frequent breakdowns, and 4 of them were used solely for spare parts to keep the others operational. None survived.



The kit isn't for beginners. In fact, it's not even for experienced modelers that don't have the software to manipulate some parts, redesign others, and even fabricate parts that aren't included. The designer got off to a really great start, and then seemed to lose interest in the whole project, finally deciding, "Meh, good enough". Some (not all) of the issues are: No instructions of any kind. Skins only, no glue tabs. No hull bottom. No interior front panel. No fender undersides. No dust covers for engine grates. Rear hull section needs to be rotated 180 degrees. Gun/crew armor shroud needs to be redrawn - unusable as is. Exhaust cover needs to be rotated 180 degrees (and even then something is still wrong with this piece). The sIG-33 consists of a gun barrel, a couple of too short vertical mounts, and a couple of aiming wheels.



I used some black and white blueprint pics, and my Answer published kit to gin up passable trailing arms and other details for the gun. Unfortunately I used the kit supplied mounts to determine the height of my new parts. As a result, the whole assembly sits too low, so the gun has a very limited range of elevation.
