Are you running encryption software/device encryption/pgp/etc?

Just curious how many people here take the security of their Android phone seriously. Not just from theives and malware, but for anti-snooping as well?



It seems that the assumption is that only people who do shady things encrypt their devices and run security measures for them, but I for one, prefer not to have all of my internet browsing, emails, etc. being logged in some database while the powers-that-be in the US create a digital profile of me.



So just curious, what safety/encryption/anonmity/etc do you use on your devices?



VPNS? Tor Browsers? PGP software? Device encryption? Firewalls? Device Kill/Wipe?

I have Holidays calendar on my Google calendar

But I can't get them to show up on my phone. I did at one time but they're not now. Not sure what I did. The Holiday calendar is selected in settings.

Anyone have reappearing Gmails?

I can delete or archive emails and they magically reappear hours or days later. I'm using K9 mail but I;ve also tried to delete them in the Gmail app.

Best Phone for up tp 400$?

Hi all,



I'm looking to replace my old, buggy and barely functioning Samsung Galaxy S.

The budget is up to 400$ and the key features I want are:



1) A fast and responsive deice(Good CPU, RAM, Touch response etc.)

2) A good camera

3) Not too big: Glaxy S3 size is the maximum, an iPhone 5 size is great.

4a) A popular model so that online support & accessories are easy to access :)

4b) I think It has to be Android or iOS for the same reason as 4a.

5) this is not exactly a feature but I will point out that I live outside of the US so I need an unlocked or at least an unlock-able phone.

6) New phone (not used).





So far I think the Galaxy S3 is a good option, but I'm open to suggestions.

Also, if I choose to go with galaxy S3 - which one should I get? there are several models and so far the i9300 seems the best from what I checked out.

Blackberry 10 is making me CRAZY!!!!!

I am by no means a Blackberry expert. My personal phone is an iPhone 5. However, half of my job is managing mobility for my company and this Blackberry 10 roll out is killing me! I have approximately 500 users, of which about 250-300 are now transitioning to Blackberry 10, an equal number of Z10s and Q10s. My assigned device is a Q10.



First off, having to enter network passwords to complete configuration is a pain. I can't be resetting all my users' network passwords in order to set up their phones, and I can't be chasing them around to get them to enter them as I have users in multiple locations.



Secondly, for every phone that I do get configured correctly and connected to Link, there is another one that Link will not recognize or will not allow sign into Blackberry ID on Link even though online and on-device work fine.



Password keeper will not transfer from older device to new device. Not all my users use this app, but those that do are finding it extremely frustrating that they have to install from App World, then either manually transfer all their passwords by typing them in again, or they contact me and I have to remote connect to their computers and do a partial restore from a backup.



I have received more complaints and requests to roll back to 9900 than I have comments of a positive nature. As I said, I am no Blackberry expert, but some of my users have been Blackberry folks for years and they are not at all impressed with the 10.



And don't even get them started on the lack of the scroll button, home button, back button bar that used to "drive" the phone.



The biggest complaint I hear is "Why is Blackberry trying to be iPhone? I want a Blackberry to work like a Blackberry."



I think the Blackberry 10 platform is going to be another nail in Blackberry's coffin.

Install apps on users devices

I am in the middle of rolling out the BB10s for my company. However, I've noticed that apps do not all transfer over when you do a device swap. I need to know if there is a way I can download apps to users' phones without them having to sign into Blackberry World and do all the work. Most of my users are pretty good about loading up their own phones, but some want everything done for them. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New devices...what's next for BB

Aside from the "hot" going's on, going private, breaking up, etc. -- I don't know if the Z and Q are gaining traction, considered a failure, etc. I do think the Bold 9xxx series was considered a success, but it seemed to be happening at a time where BB was having other problems. Maybe, maybe not. I am not looking to start a debate, but I was more asking in the context of...what's next? New devices?



So...does BB offer a new touch-screen only, no keyboard device? Do they offer a physical-keyboard device with a touch-screen? Now, how about this...how about offering a brand new slider device? Just looking to see what people are hearing, get some insight, start a discussion, etc.

Finally happened. I got a defective Samsung.

My phone has slowly started to charge slower and slower. Its at the point where it discharges if used while plugged in and doesn't charge fully overnight.

Insurance should cover it. Guess we will see.



Thought it may have been kernel related but I monitored the voltage and it seems its hardware. Went back to completely stock and failed to charge fully last night. Going to have it looked at today.



I know its not the battery. Life has been fairly good throughout. Its just not charging.

On The Road Again

Looks like I may be hitting the road once again and may miss out on the Sunday version of my review. Just been offered a job that will take me to Addison Texas for a bit, with The Bridger Group based from there. Hopefully all this will lead me back to Salt Lake and a division office they are talking about opening up here.



This is a short term job 4 to 5 weeks they are telling me, but we are talking construction so who knows.



This is so crazy cause I have had more offers for work in the short time I've been on SS than I have in the past 4 years. It's a crazy world we live in.

Samsung Galaxy Xcover2 - no ActiveSync email over cell network

Really strange problem; my user's Xcover2 works fine over wifi, but when out of range and depending on the cellular 3G (or 2G) signal, can't receive any email from my Exchange server. At these times, it has internet access, can access a Gmail account etc and other handsets on my system (iPhone, Nexus 4, iPad, HTC Desire etc) never have any problems.

Could it be a problem with the handset itself?

Touchwiz, ypu still suck

I tried. I tried to like touchwiz on my S4 but in the end I had to go back to AOSP.



1. Battery life. There are times when touchwiz is better and times when it's not. That's the problem. It's just not consistent. Kernel matters and I never could get things just right.



2. Laggy. On the surface it's smooth and silky. The problem arises when I add mods and tweaks. Touchwiz is designed to be run as is, tinkering with it screw's up the whole works. Either run as stock or get used to it eventually bogging down. Does take it awhile but eventually it will show.



3. I can't be "stock". Like I mentioned above I can't stick to pure stock. I don't like the green of touchwiz, or the messaging app. Or the browser. Or the toggles.....you get it.



4. I never feel as if its "mine". The biggest draw to AOSP is the level of customization it grants me. Active notifications, custom toggles, change theme....name it. On the outside my S4 may look like someone else's, but unlock it and it's completely different.



Performance on AOSP is smooth at all times. I have the stuff I want without the stuff I don't. I have more than a gig of ram free instead of less than. Its quick. Its solid, and its 1000 times better. Sammy, you make great phones, drop touchwiz and open it up.
